Kindee Thai Restaurant

If a name is a promise, then Kindee, translated ‘to eat good’, Thai Restaurant lives up to their promise. I recently ate at this new Mill District restaurant and was very pleased with my experience. Open just shy of one week, I was hesitant for what kind of service and food quality I would have, but overall it was good.

I was dining alone so I only ordered one item to try - green curry with beef. Served with sticky white rice and garnished with fresh kaffir lime leaves on top, I thought this dish was very good. I did not, however, think it deserved a ’spicy’ indication on the menu. If you like your thai food hot, then I suggest asking for added spice. Mine was served at about a “3″ rating on most spiciness scales, which meant that it had a kick but did not leave me begging for mercy.

But I enjoyed my meal and I will be returning to Kindee soon for a couple of reasons. First is to try more of their food; in particular I want to try their pad thai. There are nights when I crave Asian noodles, so this could be just the fix I need in the neighborhood. The second reason I will be returning soon is that, for the next few weeks until they get their liquor license, they are a BYOB (with no corking fee). Often, after visiting friends in Chicago and eating at a fantastic BYOB restaurant, Kyle and I will comment that it would be great to have some of these in Minneapolis. I know Kindee will only have this for a couple weeks, but I like the idea and think it’s worth a return visit soon. I also like the thought of pairing some of their curry with a chilled glass of white wine.

As I sat eating my green curry and watching the Guthrie-goers, I couldn’t help but think that Kindee is a great addition to the neighborhood. There is a building bustle in this part of town with the performing arts scene, good restaurants, and the farmers market. I am glad to see more businesses opening to continue the momentum.

  1. I have a friend who lives right there and we both love BYOB so we are going to check it out. I also love a good spicy thai.

Do you know that they even publish a BYOB book in Chicago? SO jealous!

  2. Had a great dinner w/ K&K last Friday night to get the weekend started. Really enjoyed the decor and friendly service. Asked if they would have outside dining when the weather warm, and got an affirmative!
